Means of Egress compares a Code requirement with a measurement taken from the Revit model. You can run one check, all seven on the current storey, or all seven on every storey. Each result appears in the checks panel, on the in-app plan where the check is spatial, and again in the report and schedules.
The seven checks
- Minimum number of exits
- Exit separation
- Travel distance
- Exit width
- Door swing
- Stair and ramp geometry
- Headroom
Occupant load and the exit set (doors, stairs, ramps) are prepared first. They are inputs to these checks, not separate pass/fail results.
Result statuses
- Pass: the measured value meets the requirement.
- Fail: the measured value does not meet the requirement. Open the check to see it on the plan (for example a travel path over the limit, or exits that are too close).
- Not applicable: the engine applied the rule and this item is outside it (for example a corridor excluded from occupant-load travel, or a door the swing rule does not judge).
- Missing: the check could not be completed from the model (a path could not be built, a required width or height is not available, or an earlier step such as exits or occupant load is still incomplete).
Fire-Resistance Rating is separate. It draws the minutes the selected Article requires on the walls and openings, and shows whether the model rating meets that figure, is short, or is not recorded. It is a sufficiency reading, not a pass/fail check.
Results are based on the information in the model and on the facts and Article you confirmed in Codex BIM. They are not an approval. A qualified professional must review them before they are relied on.
